30 Day Shreduary 2015

The Little Sister sent the following email to a group of undisclosed recipients. Yours truly being one of them:

NOTE: This email is to be read like you were watching a late night infomercial.
Are you one of those people whom every holiday season vows that you will not gorge yourself on the pumpkin pie and Stove Top stuffing and yet when it comes down to Turkey day it is every man for himself?

Did you go to wave goodbye to your friend and when you stopped waving your underarm continued?

Did you watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show eating a bowl of Hagan Daaz and wondering why you don't have six-pack abs? Well then this challenge is for you!

Come and join what everyone one is talking about...or maybe 15 of my closest friends. I am challenging you to do the Shred with me for the month of February. Why? Well first of all I need your help and encouragement to get back in shape and encouragement is one of your best qualities. Now let me say I do not plan or expect on anyone doing the Shred each day of the 28 days. I am setting a goal to Shred 3-4 times a week. I am hoping to make it to level 2 in all honesty.

Throughout the 28 days I will send a weekly email and discuss progress and reflections from the workout. Will you join me on the journey? Please respond to this email with one of the following responses:

* Shred This! I am in! 3-4 days will be tough, but I will do it with you sister!
* Commitment is not my middle name. How about 2 times a week? I have a busy schedule but I still want to support you.
* I am already a rockstar, as you know, but I will send you words of encouragement during your Shred February.
* Shredder was my favorite character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 3-4 times a week is wimpy, but I support you. Mark me down for 5-7 times a week and watch my get shredded.

Your event planner,
Little "28 days away from being shredded" Sister

So if you are new here, she is talking about the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels and we have now started calling it Shreduary.... There is a group of us doing it and everyone has responded that they really needed something like this so I guess encouragement and suffering through workouts together is just what we needed.

My favorite Ninja Turtle was Mikey, but I told her to mark me down for 5-7 times a week. Looks like it is another month of shredding for me! Anyone else in? Let me know what you commit to in the comments below.

Iceland this summer

Booked!  This summer I am going to Iceland.  Crazy.  Iceland.  So cool.

So I feel a little bad about this story because T and I talked about going to Iceland for our honeymoon but then thought it might be too expensive and went to Mexico instead.  The Mexico trip was awesome but we always talked about going to Iceland still.  Then last summer I planned the majority of the awesome Italy trip and was feeling planned out when I talked to Mo and asked about an Iceland trip that a friend of hers leads through GeoTours.  He doesn't always do Iceland, but a few weeks later she said he was going to Iceland in summer 2015 and I said I was in.  T didn't want to go on a "group trip" and decided not to go but the Middle Sister signed up because of THIS weekend Mo and I spent in Pinnacles National Park.  So as of right now Mo, the Middle Sister and myself are heading to Iceland this summer.  Our airfare is booked and our Walter Mitty soundtrack has been downloaded.

Iceland here we come (in about five months......).

Drone Video: Oahu, Hawaii

Hawaii 2014 from Torii Ott on Vimeo.

Here is a video T made from our trip to Oahu this past summer.  You can see more photos and read about it HERE.

A few spots highlighted in this video are the house some of the relatives stayed in, the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens, Lanikai Pillbox sunrise hike, and a "secret" waterfall hike.

Siracha Chop

Siracha Chop

I know.  Not very pretty, but this little number has graduated to T's new favorite meal and we might of had it for dinner two nights in a row.  It was a silent dinner as we both just sat there and ate.  And after, words were slow to come back because we couldn't find a way to describe what we had just eaten.  The only thing we could say was it was "really good".  Really, really, really good.

T followed this recipe from Lady and Pups using Hawaiian sandwich rolls and kraft singles as the cheese.  Our house was smokey, the burger was messy and we are down half a bottle of siracha, but these are really, really, really good.

Spicy.  Complex flavors. Hawaiian rolls were key and be sure to grill them on both sides. Even the smashing at the end adds to the dance of this siracha chop.  The only bad thing is that it seems you can only make two at a time which means it might just be T and I enjoying these at our house for awhile......

Happy 2015

Happy New Year!

Yes I am about five days late, but I have been Internet-less for a bit and am just coming back into that part of the civilized world, so Happy 2015! If you recall, I don't do resolutions because I have goals and themes for each year and I usually settle on those around Chinese New Year (which will be February 19th (your birthday Mom!) this year and is Year of the Sheep). I am pretty sure I have a theme, but am still working on some goals. One thing I have already done is sign up for the Huntington Beach Half Marathon on Super Bowl Sunday! I ran 7.5 miles yesterday and I am slow! But I did it and signed up, so wish me luck.

Were you looking at the photo above and wondering "What the ......?". Yep. That is a fake deer. It used to live in front of my dad's place, then my sister's place for years. There were two of them and they were HEAVY. They belonged to my Dad and finally he said we could get rid of them when they started falling apart. I think there were some bunny rabbits too. One of our neighbors liked them and so one day the Little Sister and I wheeled one over to her house and left it in her yard. When they came home they laughed so hard and those neighbors LOVE that deer. Every holiday they dress it up and this is what I came home too after New Years. It is so fun to see the deer dressed up. UPS drivers stop and take pictures with it, random strangers driving by stop for selfies, that deer has a great new home. Now we just need to plant some flowers around it's beat-up old legs......because it is here to stay!

Happy New Year!
